Senior Mechanical Engineer - Energy (Phoenix)

DescriptionBurns & McDonnell is seeking well-rounded and self-driven Senior Mechanical Engineering to join our Energy global practice.
This position will be responsible for the design and evaluation of mechanical systems associated with coal and natural gas-fired generation facilities as well as associates support facilities.
The candidate will be responsible for front-end planning/preliminary design/code analysis; final design including bidding document and specification preparation; construction administration including review of compliance submittals and resolution of construction issues; and interfacing with Burns & McDonnell project managers, equipment suppliers, clients, other engineering disciplines, detailers, and designers.
This person will perform work that involves conventional engineering practices but may involve a variety of complex features.
Responsibilities Executes complex assignments related to electrical power generating station design requiring the use of advanced techniques, resulting in the development of new or improved processes, equipment and/or technological methods.
Directs coordination with clients and other external contacts.
Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to less experienced staff members.
Regularly meets and corresponds with clients or outside personnel.
Responsible for project planning, budgeting, and scheduling.
Responsible for project kickoff including development of scope of work, site investigation, data collection, project budgeting, project scheduling, and project setup.
During design phase, responsible for design oversight and project coordination of design team, interface with client personnel, monthly progress reporting, budget updates and forecasting.
During construction phase, responsible for coordination with site manager to respond to RFIs and questions.
Will coordinate with Department Managers to assign an engineering team.
Must develop familiarity with internal and client standards and procedures.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related degree from an ABET-accredited program.
Or Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering a plus.
Professional Engineering License strongly preferred.
Previous experience related to electrical power generation station design preferred Previous consulting engineering experience strongly preferred.
Project development and project management experience a plus.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Willingness and ability to utilize IT to streamline work processes and approaches.
The position requires the ability to effectively multi-task and manage numerous projects/tasks simultaneously, frequently within an aggressive and compressed schedule.
The ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment is crucial, as well as the ability to maintain the project schedule and achieve target due dates.
