The Engineering Manager is expected to:
Bring deep technical knowledge drawing from previous hands on roles as a back end software engineer.
Collaborate closely with a diverse group of people, such as engineers, product managers, finance, sales/marketing, data science and fleet to assist in the discovery and delivery of viable/valuable APIs.
Lead the execution of Sunstate's next generation core rental platform as an evolutionary mission including, but not limited to, streamlining/operationalizing CI/CD pipelines and building fast/resilient RESTful services through experimentation and rapid iterations.
Oversee day-to-day back end engineering efforts to ensure the core rental platform continuously increases in the following areas:
capabilities, reliability, resiliency, performance and securityUnderstand ROI and closely manage to engineering budgetsActively deprecate legacy components that do not align with the current architectural directionMake build vs buy decisionsThink of APIs as a product and care for your products - complete ownershipElevate the overall technical acumen of the engineering team through hiring, performance management and active mentoring/coachingOperate as a servant-based leader that leads by context rather than control
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience5
years of hands-on experience building APIs as a software engineer4
years as a technical lead/mentor/coach1
years as a manager of a technical teamExpert level skills with Kotlin, Java or equivalentExpert level skills working with CI/CD pipelinesExpert level skills in cloud infrastructure, containerized and/or serverless solutions, and elastic scalability.
Expert level skills in relational and non-relational DBsProven track record of employing modern back end engineering best practicesProven track record of establishing highly functioning back end engineering through hiring, performance management, coaching and/or career developmentProven track record of building strong relationships with product management teams with a heavy amount of collaboration and inclusion in both discovery and deliveryDiversity:
