Sr. Software Engineer

L-3 Aviation Products Division (L-3 APD) is a leading provider of commercial and military avionics with unsurpassed performance, quality and customer support. Primary business unit sites are in Alpharetta GA, Grand Rapids MI, and Sarasota FL. This position will be based in Phoenix, AZ.
This employee will have responsibility to determine technology, system architecture, feasibility studies at the direction of the Director or Manager of Engineering. Expected to provide consultation in one or more areas for design, development and implementation or technical products and systems.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assigned design and implementation and technical direction at the unit/system level. Development of unit/system architecture. Assesses project progress and provides status to Manager/Director. Contributes to decisions on technology choices. Assist lower level engineers and technicians in their tasks. Creates high level requirements and development strategy. Creates process work flows and improvements.
Software Specialty Provides methods, architecture decision/inputs. Provides consultation or creates low level requirements from higher level requirements, create design from requirements, code, integrate, debug and test assigned portions of software product. Create or modify established company or project plans and standards to create full life cycle data creation including requirements, design, code, and traceability. For software test function, establishment of test case methodologies, procedures, results, and traceability.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Computer Science with 5 years experience in avionics engineering in specialty area.
Thorough knowledge of avionics products.
ADDITIONAL SKILLS OR ABILITIES
Knowledge of applicable industry performance specifications and regulatory qualification documents.
Ability to work without supervision and to provide technical leadership at all levels.
Must be capable of clear written and verbal communication across all functional groups within the company.
Expected to demonstrate teamwork at the department level.
Requires ability to use and select appropriate software tools for requirements capture, configuration management, traceability, design, and test of software.
