Summary Description of Position
Individual is responsible for managing and directing mining, ready mix concrete and/or asphalt operations in a geographic area. Individual will ensure that assigned plants meet or exceed operations, production, capital and cost reduction goals and objectives against budget. Individual will ensure that assigned facilities are in compliance with Vulcan Materials Company policies, procedures and practices.
Essential Functions
1. Ensure that assigned plants meet or exceed budget goals and objectives;
2. Manages and directs plants to ensure that Company and Division is maximizing return on its assets (Economic Profit);
3. Ensures that all assigned plants are in compliance with all Company and Division policies and procedures to include governmental rules and regulations;
4. Works closely with Division resources to ensures that all permits and reclamation plans are current and takes appropriate steps to secure new permits to expand Company mining operations at assigned plants;
Manages and directs employee relations activities at assigned plants to ensure a high level of employee satisfaction and assigned plants operate with no work stoppages or any type of employee disruptions;
In cases where the plant is organized by a labor union, individual is responsible for ensuring a good working relationship with union and participates in all collective bargaining activities (grievance administration and contract negotiations);
Ensures that all assigned plants have zero accidents and are in total compliance with all Company and Region SHE policies and procedures;
Manages and directs the annual budget process where each plant develops detailed operating budget to include capital plan and cost reduction programs;
Works with sales in addressing customer relations and customer service requirements to ensure Operations meets or exceeds customer expectations;
Ensures that materials mined are processed in accordance with Company and Division specifications and quality standards;
Manages and directs the capital budget for each site to ensure that all capital projects are completed according to AFE and cost projections;
Manages and directs automation and process improvement goals and objectives for assigned plants to ensure that productivity and efficiency goals and objectives are met;
Ensures that each assigned plant has a comprehensive system to track and monitor costs on a daily/monthly basis to determine performance and develop plans to address variances;
Ensure that each plant has preventive maintenance program to perform regular and routine maintenance;
Works with other Area Managers in Sales, Ready-Mix, and Asphalt Operations on cross-functional issues and concerns at each plant.
Other duties may be assigned as required.
Other Requirements
This position requires knowledge and awareness of mining and construction site hazards.
May be required occasionally to use protective gear and to take other precautions when in or near a mining/construction site.
Local and regional travel by automobile and periodic need to travel by airline
Must have the ability to use computerized equipment and technology
Ability to work in a stressful, deadline oriented environment that requires complex, technical information and decision making
Must be able to present complex information in a clear and concise manner
Education, Experience, Skills Required
Education:
A Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience is required.
Experience:
10 years experience in the industry (aggregates, ready mix concrete and asphalt) with a track record of progressive responsibility and successful operations management.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge and understanding of rock and sand mining, ready mix concrete and/or asphalt operations.
Modern management theory and practices, knowledge and plant engineering principles and practices.
Understanding of aggregate plant operation with a focus on aggregate, asphalt and/or ready mix concrete plant operations and equipment required.
Knowledge of preventative maintenance principles and practices
Effectively interface with all levels of people and knowledge of modern motivational principles and practices.
Possess excellent interpersonal skills to include both written and oral.
Knowledge and understanding of modern purchasing and procurement practices.
Knowledge and understanding of labor relations and collective bargaining.
Knowledge and understanding of world class engineering principles and procedures with a focus on process improvements through human assets.
Strong understanding of quality control systems and processes to eliminate defective products.
Firm knowledge and understanding of engineering technologies and practices to improve efficiencies and reduce operating costs.
Adapt programs to motivate and reward people toward higher levels of performance.
Establish and measure performance standards for technical support groups.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
